Moisture meters & mapping

Compare readings across affected surfaces to understand the distribution of damp.

How the method contributes

Moisture measurements help build a picture of where material is wetter and how that pattern relates to visible damage. Readings depend on the surface and should be compared appropriately. The engineer uses the pattern with the history, plumbing layout and suitable tests rather than treating a meter reading as a complete diagnosis.

Where it can be useful

  • Damp walls and ceilings
  • Moisture around concealed pipe routes
  • Comparing affected and unaffected surfaces

Its practical limitations

A damp reading does not prove a pipe leak or establish its exact position. Salts, materials and other moisture sources can influence interpretation.

Part of an investigation, not a guess

The engineer chooses the methods that can usefully test a possibility. Results are compared with the property layout and symptoms before access is proposed. See the full investigation and repair process.

When this method may be part of your visit

Tell us the symptoms, previous findings and any restrictions on water isolation. The engineer considers this method alongside the system layout and other available evidence. A test result must be interpreted before choosing an opening or repair.
